I’ve just spent an uncomfortable afternoon with my dentist. And learned a few things…..

Good oral hygiene is especially important at our stage of life and, of course, beyond. So brushing and flossing daily, and having regular dental checkups, are highly recommended. In fact it’s time to take extra care.

As we age and our estrogen levels decline at menopause, some of us (and our dentists) start to notice these changes

Tooth loss

Gum recession

Higher risk of gum tissue injury

Hot and cold tooth sensitivity

Root sensitivity

Decreased bone density in the jawbone

The last one is my problem. Decreased bone density. When will these side effects of getting older stop? It’s hard to age gracefully when bits and pieces slow down, run down and fall off.
