Menopause and Acupuncture
June 26, 2010 · 2 Comments
How effective is Traditional Chinese Medicine? Does acupuncture help with difficult menopause? I’ve never tried it, so I can’t tell you anything about its effectiveness – or otherwise, but I see that the United Nations World Health Organisation has approved acupuncture as a treatment for symptoms associated with menopause. So it could be an answer for women who don’t want to take the chance with HRT. In Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), menopause is seen as a natural process which alters the balance of Yin and Yang. After menopause many women discover (and may be disturbed... [Read the full story]

The Beauty of Black Raspberry
May 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment
If bramble-like black raspberries are growing wild around your yard and trying to take over your garden – don’t complain. Instead, eat every dark-purple berry you can (freeze those you can’t). While all berries are good cancer fighters, black raspberries are all-stars. They’re so good at preventing the Big C on the cellular level (eat more, eat more!) that in the lab, scientists have also made them into a skin gel that takes the sting out of sunburn, slows the growth of squamous cell skin cancer, and squelches inflammation from UVB rays. The black raspberry contains high... [Read the full story]

Hot Flash Flush
February 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Image via Wikipedia Suddenly you have an intense, hot feeling on your face and upper body, often accompanied by a rapid heartbeat and sweating, giddiness, nausea, anxiety, headache, weakness, and, most awfully, a feeling of suffocation. Some women experience an “aura,” an uneasy feeling just before the hot flash. My mother used to “smell heat”. This is when the arguments for HRT appear. Starting from the first day of June, I took up the 10,000 Steps Challenge. A few quick facts 8,000 deaths per year are attributable to physical inactivity 65% of males and 74% of females are not sufficiently active for health benefits 52% of Australian women and 67% of Australian men are overweight or obese For some time we’ve been told that a 30 minute walk will keep us at a recommended level of fitness but that’s been changed to the idea of 10.000 steps. It basically means walking 10,000 steps every day. This simple regime boosts energy levels and improves mood reduces risk of... [Read the full story]

Leafy Greens can protect from the Sun
August 2, 2009 · 2 Comments
I’ve seen a lot of women deliberately set out to get a tan, for some reason we all look better with that golden sun-kissed look. Why is that? Because it’s flattering of course, a tan is even youthful, at least until next year when the deep wrinkles show up. I wish I hadn’t baked myself in my youth. The result is my dried out, deeply lined skin which is there forever regardless. Why didn’t I listen to my mother? She begged me to wear a hat, she warned me that I would end up with “lizard skin” and she was right. My face shows clearly that I spent my life in... [Read the full story]
