Congratulations to Quentin Bryce and Australia
Australia’s 25th governor-general is Quentin Bryce, prominent lawyer, academic and womens’ activist. Her appointment ends 107 years of male dominated tradition.
Australia is showing signs of finally moving into the 21st century.
This news is fantastic, historic and quite thrilling as Bryce has a background in discrimination and human rights, and will restore some compassion, as well as dignity, into the position.
Quentin Bryce became the first woman appointed to Queensland University’s law faculty (1965), established the Women’s Information Service in Brisbane (1984) was appointed Queensland director of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (1987) and became the sex discrimination commissioner on the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (1989)
Congratulations to Bryce who culminates a spectacular five-decade long career as a trailblazer, to become Australia’s first female governor-general.
